Community Art
Everyone is an artist!
And art is fun!
Especially when you’re creating with others.
River Arts brings Community Art to Farmer’s Markets, Local Events– like the Pride Parade and RioFest, Supervisor Hopkins’ office, our Autumn Craft Fair, Guerneville ArtWalk, Give Back Tuesday and a growing list of other venues.
Inspired and led by Doug DeVivo, of the Blue Door Gallery, each event leads us to create a unique and uniquely personal creation— an extravagant rubber ducky, a gaudy mask, a goofy bowtie for Father’s day, a lovely valentine, a colorful Easter egg, a loving Mother’s Day gift, a crazy kaleidoscope, a magical mobile, a sparkling Christmas ornament and more.
Volunteers Needed!!!
Of all of River Arts’ projects, this is the one that really needs YOU to make it happen. Our ambition to expand this program is out of control! And it’s so much fun!
If you can even help us do one or two events a year, that will help so much! We need a cadre of Community Art consiglieres!
Come with us to the Farmers’ Market, Craft Fair, Dia de los Muertos event. It’s a day of pure fun & joy!
For more information on how to volunteer please contact us or see our volunteer page.
The Back Story:
The back story may be worth sharing.
In 2022 The Stewards of the Coast & Redwoods donated 1,000 Rubber Duckies to River Arts. (These used to be used as part of a fundraiser to race duckies down the Russian River. But Stewards decided that putting more plastic in the river maybe wasn’t such a good idea.)
What to do with them? Well, we brainstormed and tossed ideas around like bouncing ducks.
But then, through the auspices of Creative Sonoma, we received a grant from the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts to bring artists together.
And our Community Arts Program was born. Because everyone is an artist! We put out tables at lots of events with rubber duckies and all the fixings you needed to go crazy making your own personalized wacky duck. The perfect vehicle for Building Community Through Creativity!
